I can’t believe that a modern time bomb ticks.

    Anyway: context.

Roman arenas survive, Roman aqueducts survive, Roman roads survive. Have any Roman dams survived? None that I’ve heard of.

#1 I tend to think the dam will survive. I was preparing to move on site for a few years during construction when I was pulled off to replace another engineer on another project so I never did get out there.

The biggest problem is/was after the dam was built they started building/extending cities on to the flood plain – a no no in any part of the world. Now because of the rain, which is in metres rather than mm, they are having to release water with the inevitable consequences on the flood plain and the people living there.

See; http://joannenova.com.au/2020/07/watching-the-three-gorges-dam/ and previous posts on her site about it.
